Release of First Look (with Aishwarya Rai)
The first look of the movie was released as part of the 64th Cannes Film Festival.[27] A promotional poster was released during a press conference in which Ronnie Screwvala of UTV Motion Pictures, Madhur Bhandarkar, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan officially announced the movie.[28] The director said, "The movie is a glamorous yet bold story of the internal journey of a superstar. I am certain it will appeal to audiences across the globe and Aishwarya was a perfect choice for the role. In fact, no one could’ve essayed it better." Screwvala stated “With Heroine, we plan to take things to the next level. When you watch the film, you will feel that the role was written with someone as talented and stunning as Aishwarya in mind.”[29] The actress too admitted that she was "looking forward to this new journey in the movie.” It was also announced that Aishwarya Rai will be have a wardrobe of more than 40 outfits designed by Manish Malhotra in the film.[30] Explaining why he was launching the project in Cannes, Screwvala alluded to Rai's star power saying, "She is the brand ambassador for India and for Indian cinema when it comes to the French Riviera." The actress was quick to deny any reference to her personal life being portrayed in the movie and said that the entire idea was a result of Bhandarkar's conceptualization.[31] The Official Press Release distributed as a part of the announcement stated that "The film is based on the life and times of a superstar heroine, Mahi from the dream factory we call 'Bollywood'. The film is a daring, shocking, glamorous, scandalous behind-the-scenes account of the reality behind the world of glitz and glamour that our film stars inhabit. For a country obsessed with films and film stars, Heroine will take audiences on a voyeuristic journey to see what really goes on in the lives of India's sweethearts."[32]
Watch: The trailer of Kareena Kapoor's 'Heroine'
Mumbai: ‘Heroine’ is not inspired by any one person, says director Madhur Bhandarkar, who is known for his realistic films like ‘Fashion’ and ‘Page 3’.
Produced by UTV Motion Pictures, the film is about the ups and downs in the life of a movie star.
"`Heroine` is not inspired by any one person. The movie is about Mahi (Kareena) and her journey towards stardom and the ups and downs that come with it," he said.
"I am not saying it is not inspired by Hollywood or Bollywood, there is inspiration. I would say that 70 percent of it is realistic and 30 percent fiction. It is difficult to pin point one person on whom the movie is based," he said.
Research seems to be the basis for all of Mandhur Bhandarkar`s films and the director spoke to many people for 'Heroine' as well.
"I have interacted with many people. I wanted to portray today`s film industry and its rise and fall," he said.
The film has been creating a buzz for a while now. Initially, after Kareena refused the role, Aishwariya Rai Bachchan had been a part of the film but later withdrew due to her pregnancy and Kareena stepped in.
The director admitted that he altered the script when Kareena came on board.
Kareena said that she had her hands full the first time she was approached but was glad when she got the role back.
"I had no reservations at the time I was approached but I was shooting for `Bodyguard`, `Agent Vinod`, `Ra One` and `Talaash` and I wanted to shoot this film at a stretch. I am happy that they came back to me," Kareena revealed.
The film is all set to hit theatres on September 21.

Kareena Kapoor: Saif will announce our wedding date
The media could not refrain from asking the big question during the 'first look' launch of Kareena Kapoor's film HEROINE. Though right in the beginning of the function UTV's Siddharth Roy Kapur made it clear that questions not pertaining to the film will not be welcomed. Everyone was aware about the news of the postponement of Saif-Kareena wedding that was to happen in October 2012 and the media wanted to confirm with the (would-be) bride herself the veracity of the report that had appeared in a morning tabloid. The bride termed the report as speculative yet did not deny it and informed the media that the prerogative to announce the wedding date is of the groom i.e. Saif Ali Khan, the Nawab of Pataudi.
