Swipe Telecom launches three budget ICS tablets in India, starting Rs. 5,999

Swipe Telecom has launched three new budget tablets in India - Swipe 3D Life, Swipe Halo TabX74S and Swipe Float TabX78. All three Swipe tablets run on Google Android 4.0.3 ICS, and are available between Rs. 5,999 and Rs. 8,999. The details of all the three devices are as follows:

1.   The Swipe 3D Life Tab X74 is priced at Rs. 5,999. The budget ICS tablet has a 7-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 800x480. The device is powered by Allwinner A13 Cortex A8 CPU clocked at 1.2GHz-1.5GHz and also has the Mali-400 GPU along with 512MB of RAM. The device has 4GB internal storage expandable upto 16GB via a microSD card. The device also has Wi-Fi; Bluetooth built in support for a 2G GSM SIM card and video playback support for 1080p video. The device also has a rear facing 2MP camera. A 3,400 mAh battery powers the device. The device has a primary focus of 3D gaming and videos, with its colour separation (red-cyan) stereoscopic display. It will ship with one pair of 3D glasses.

Next we have the Swipe Float Tab x78 priced at Rs. 6,999. The device boasts of a 7-inch capacitive touch screen, metal shell chasing, 1.5GHz Boxchip A13 processor, Mali-400 GPU, 512MB of RAM, 2.0MP front facing camera, Wi-Fi and support for an external 3G dongle. The device has 8GB internal storage expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card. A 3,000 mAh battery powers the device.

The final tablet launched was the Halo TabX74S. The device has a 7-inch TFT capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 480x800, an Allwinner A10 Cortex A8 processor clocked at 1.2GHz-1.5GHz, Mali-400 GPU, 1GB of RAM, 4GB built-in storage expandable up to 16GB via microSD card, 1080p HD video playback support, 1.3MP front camera and a 2.0MP rear snapper. A 3,800 mAh battery powers the device. This is the most expensive of the three tablets and is priced at Rs. 8,999.

The new range of Swipe Telecom’s tablets are available via online stores such as Flipkart, Snapdeal, eBay and Ncarry. Swipe Telecom envisions more than 25,000 retail outlets across India will carry their products soon. Swipe Telecom also hopes to leverage its 600 plus service centers across India, and provide round-the-clock call center support for general and technical enquiries.

DataWind, the makers of the Aakash tablet, has launched two new tablets – UbiSlate 7+ and UbiSlate 7C. The new DataWind tablets come with similar set of specifications, other than the display quality and internal storage. The Ubislate 7C, also touted as the commercial version of the Aakash II tablet, is priced at Rs. 3,999, while the UbiSlate 7+ comes for Rs. 2,999. We bring you a hands on with the new UbiSlate 7C

The ultra low-cost UbiSlate 7C tablets are meant for students. DataWind says its new UbiSlate tablets will help bridge the digital divide in the country. The new UbiSlate 7C and UbiSlate+ tablets comes with a range of educational applications, including soft copies of C.B.S.E text books. DataWind has also partnered with several content providers for providing educational content on the device. The UbiSlate 7 also comes pre-loaded with Wikipedia app.

Both the DataWind tablets come with similar set of specifications, other than the display quality. The UbiSlate 7+ has a seven-inch resistive touchscreen, while the UbiSlate 7C has seven-inch four-point capacitive touchscreen.

The UbiSlate 7C runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. However, the device shown at the launch event was running on Android 2.2 Froyo. We were told the tablet will soon get upgraded to Gingerbread. The Aakash tablet will be out with Android ICS OS; thus we can expect the UbiSlate 7C to get the ICS update in near future as well.
